My Teaching Philosophy

My Teaching Philosophy:

We have a great opportunity to educate some of the best and brightest young men and women. Being in a classroom is a chance to teach values, discipline, and work ethic, while also learning the concepts of teamwork, perseverance, and earned success. I want to create a classroom culture where students are passionate and invested in learning. I expect them to work hard, learn something new and foster healthy minds on a daily basis.  By focusing on the little things with these students the results will follow. No detail is too small. Fun, exciting and differentiated teaching methods are a great way to make learning happen without even realizing it. I also believe leading by example is paramount as a teacher; I take great pride in my own work ethic. I choose “right” rather than “easy.”  Teachers are accountable, trustworthy, and courageous. A teacher cannot be afraid to make hard decisions, even unpopular ones. A teacher must earn respect through his or her actions in and out of the classroom. Trust and respect are the foundations in which success or failure is constructed. Trust is best when you prove to your students they can do well and challenged when they fail; an effective teacher has the ability to trust his/her own colleagues and students to do what’s right and continue learning when things get tough and still come out on top.

5 Year Goals:

*  Have 90% or better students meet and exceed state exams
*  Be nominated for Teacher of the Year
*  Move at least 70% of my students on to college and university studies
*  Help improve the involvement of parents in the school
